Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, but as a groom, you have a big role in making sure the day is smooth, fun, and unforgettable. Over the years, I’ve DJed countless weddings, and I’ve seen what works (and what doesn’t). Here’s a no-BS Groom’s Wedding Checklist to help you navigate the big day and keep the energy high from start to finish.

Your wedding playlist isn’t just background noise—it creates the entire vibe. Work with your DJ to craft the perfect soundtrack for every moment:

A smooth wedding schedule ensures a great experience for your guests. Here’s how to keep things flowing:
- 🎤 Grand Entrance: Pick a hype song to set the tone
- 🥂 Speeches: Keep them short and engaging
- 🍽 Dinner & Toasts: Well-timed to keep guests engaged
- 💃 Open the Dance Floor: Don’t wait too long—momentum is key
Be Ready to Party:
- Set the mood right from the start: Place elder guests and small children away from the DJ table or speakers to avoid discomfort from loud music.
- Maximize the vibes: Position your party guests near the DJ table to keep the energy up and the vibes flowing.
- Allow setup time: Give the DJ 3-4 hours of setup time before guests arrive (if applicable) to ensure everything runs smoothly.
- DJ as your party starter: The DJ will assist with the Grand Entrance lineup and help engage the wedding party to get everyone into “party mode.”
The Grand Entrance & First Dance:
- High-energy music: Play energetic tunes for the Grand Entrance and when introducing the Bride and Groom to hype up the crowd.
- First Dance: It’s best to have your First Dance right after the Grand Entrance.
- Song length: For the First Dance, 1.5 minutes or to the first chorus is recommended unless you have a routine or really love the song.
Speeches & Toasts:
- Clear audio for speeches: Ensure your DJ uses the best speaker(s) for toasts. Limit speeches to no more than 4 to keep the momentum going.
- Mic tips: Make sure the microphone is 1 inch from the mouth for clear sound.
Family Dances & Special Moments:
- Family dances: Keep them short—around 1.5 minutes or up to the first chorus unless you have a routine or a special connection to the song.
- Eat and rest: Make time for yourselves to eat, and be sure your vendors eat as well—seriously, don’t forget to feed them! (They’ll appreciate it!)
Fun & Interactive Moments:
- Make the garter/bouquet toss exciting: Add a prize for the person who catches the garter or bouquet to make the moment more fun (it keeps things from awkwardly ending up on the floor too!).
- Money Dance: Get the bridal party involved to start the money dance—this helps create energy and encourages guests to join in.
Keeping Everything on Track:
- Finish events before dancing: Make sure all key events like the garter, bouquet toss, and money dance are done before open dancing starts.
- Align with your photographer/videographer: Make sure your timeline is in sync with photography and videography so they’re not rushing off before everything is done.
- Thank you speech & group photo: Plan for your thank you speech and group photo before open dancing to set the mood and fill the dance floor. If you’re doing a group photo, inform the photographer in advance so they’re ready.

Your first dance should feel special, whether it’s choreographed or just a simple moment together. Pick a song that means something to you and enjoy it! Also would you like to dance to the whole song or end at a certain part of the song. Usually we fade at tjhe end of the 1st chorus.
